A Life Of Africa
Africa is everywhere,
it's apart of our lives.
We see it everyday
in many forms.
It steals, it kills,
it enslaves and
it takes from our senses.
It leaves us worthless
and without hope.
You feel guilty
for being so fortunate.
Why am I so Lucky?
Why has Africa by passed me?
This place is so complex
and I can't understand
it's purpose.
Why are you here Africa?
Why are your people
measured with meaningless things?
My whole being
just wants to scream!
Why!Why! Why!!!
So greedy,so self involved....
Oh Africa you have
shed light on evil.
You have awakened
many demons of this world.
You have freed and split open
your wounds for all to see.
And now... you must heal,
and you must learn to
love life once again.
To take a life,
No to save a life!
What is a life worth?

What a beautiful poem. Thanks for sharing something so personal! I am still anxiously waiting to see blood diamond (no babysitter). I have always been fascinated with Africa and how there are so many different ways of life and living. Just when I think I've had a bad day (and I've had a few)I think of someone in Darfur or Ethiopia and although it doesn't make it easier wow - there is no comparison. I quite often follow Anderson Cooper's stories he does quite a bit for Africa and was one of the only reporters to bring us the initial attrocities of the genocides that happend and continue to happen in Rawanda and throughout the rest of Africa.
We saw that movie too, ouch!
Sometimes writing a poem can be a good release like journaling ~ or blogging :)

Have you ever read "The Power of One"? Nate and I really got into it - it's not quite the same as Blood Diamond, but it's about a young boy in South Africa around apartheid. Very page-turning. Oh, and it's fiction, but really good.
Great poem, it really captured the message in the movie.
